Stroke Program (AR SAVES) (COVID-19 Social Distancing)

Active Community Outreach Ideas

Active Events (requires a video interaction using Zoom or other virtual platforms)

  • Patient Stroke Education – Discuss BE FAST with patients during discharge process. Provide BE FAST magnet to take home or ink pen to sign discharge paperwork then to keep.
  • Provide Stroke Awareness PSA or Video – Post a recorded stroke presentation or video. If you are not going to be speaking or educating during the event, it is passive.
  • Virtual Reading of Grandpa’s Crooked Smile – Using a virtual platform, share your screen as you read the e-book. Tutorials are available with your Stroke Program Health Educator.

Alternatively, provide the link to the read-along version to teachers and other community members to play during lunch or other during the school day.

  • Social Media Post – Create a social media post that provides stroke awareness. It must include a picture and stroke messaging. All comments, likes, and shares are active participants reached. If you have the owner view, “engagements” are active, and “people reached” is passive. Review social media guidelines PowerPoint from November All Sites Minutes. (Counted as an active event only if accompanied by a different active event. Otherwise, it is passive.)
  • Go “live” on Social Media– Access your hospital Facebook page; use the live feature to share/educate on the signs and symptoms of a stroke. After you have finished the “live”, others are able to see it later and you can gain engagements or views. This event can be done while creating projects for competitions (ex: BE FAST Tree competition, Spooky Stroke Pumpkin, etc.). (Counted as an active event only if accompanied by a different active event. Otherwise, it is passive.)
  • COVID-19 related PSA– Share COVID-19 PSA on your social media. (Counted as an active event only if accompanied by a different active event. Otherwise, it is passive.)
  • COVID-19 Screening Station -After COVID-19 screening, provide stroke education using BE FAST and give the person stroke material for example ink pen or stress brain. If you or screeners are just handing out material and not educating, this is a passive event.
  • COVID-19 All Sites Call- Joining the virtual COVID-19 All Sites Call will be marked as an active event.
  • Virtual Stroke Awareness Presentation– Schedule a virtual presentation with local schools, nursing students, organizations, businesses, and hospital nurses/staff, etc. Prepare a presentation or a list of what to discuss and leave time for questions. Your Stroke Program Health Educator can provide presentation materials.
  • Virtual Meetings– Using a virtual platform, provide five brief stroke awareness points to meeting attendees using BE FAST.

Passive Community Outreach Ideas

Passive Events (Does not require face to face interaction or education)

  • Social media post– create a social media post that provides stroke awareness. It must include a picture and stroke verbiage. If the post has no comments, likes, or shares, but shows people reached then it is passive.
  • Advertise on-screen in lobby/around the hospital– using a BE FAST pdf, stroke education presentation, stroke awareness video.
