Our brain injury registry collects records of traumatic brain injuries that happen in Arkansas. All hospitals in our state trauma system are required to report moderate to severe brain injuries within 5 days of diagnosis.
The IDHI Brain Injury Program uses this information for multiple purposes, including to:
- Contact patients to offer assistance, resources, and case management as needed.
- Report brain injury statistics to the Arkansas Department of Health and the Trauma Advisory Council
- Monitor trends in brain injury incidence and hospital care, including discharge facilities
- Offer assistance to hospital staff who are serving people with brain injuries.
There are many people living with brain injuries who are not in our registry. Our program offers the same level of support to any person in the state with a brain injury, regardless of whether they are on the registry or not. If you, a person you love, or a person you are helping needs assistance, please give us a call at 501-526-7656.
Inclusion Criteria
Not all brain injuries are included in the registry. According to the law, injuries should only be referred if:
- The patient is an Arkansas resident (or will reside in AR after discharge)
- The patient survives to hospital admission
- The injury is traumatic in nature, such as a blunt force or jolt to the head
- The Glasgow coma score is 12 or below (adults) or 13 or below (pediatric)
